Aussie test legend Ian Chappell has lifted the lid on the captaincy crisis that Australia has just four months to escape.
The former Aussie test captain has penned a column where he suggests Steve Smith’s divisive return to the test captaincy next year would be an indictment on Australia’s cricket leadership production line.
Smith’s leadership position ban elapses in April, 2020.
There has been no definitive communication on whether test captain Tim Paine, 34, will continue to occupy the top office in Australia beyond this time.
Australia is heading into the unknown beyond this summer of cricket.
In a column for ESPN Cricinfo, Chappell writes Australia is in a “state of destitution” with no clear options banging down the door to challenge Smith or Paine as viable captaincy options for next summer’s test series against India.
