Heavy rains lash South Australia overnight, more than 35mm in Adelaide, 60mm in Mt Lofty

Adelaide has recorded its wettest day in more than two years after a heavy downpour swept across much of South Australia overnight.

The most significant falls were recorded in and around Adelaide, with 40mm at West Tce and 39mm at the airport.

At Mt Lofty, a staggering 65mm had fallen by 9.45am today.

It is Adelaide's wettest day in more than two years, as well as the wettest June day in six years.

With a top of 17C today, a further 15mm of rain is expected in Adelaide after 9am.

Rains should ease later in the day, but not before a potential thunderstorm hits early in the morning for most of the state.
