Hottest start to autumn in eleven years, but heatwave nearly over

The last time it was this hot at the start of Mad March was in 2008, when a late-season heatwave lasted 15 days in a row, including six days over 40C.

But, the good news is that our current heatwave is nearly over.

It will stay hot on Friday night and going into Saturday morning, with the overnight low expected to be 27C, says Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Vince Rowlands.

A fire weather warning is in place for most parts of the state and the State Emergency Service has issued an extreme heatwave warning.
