RENOVATORS are being warned of the dangers of lead paint after an Adelaide family suffered lead poisoning during restoration of their dream home.
Homeowner Anthony, who didn’t want his surname published, said his wife and three children visited a doctor after a friend questioned if their St Peters home contained lead.
All tested high for lead and his youngest, a toddler, needed chelation therapy at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
Chelation therapy uses drugs that bind to lead in the bloodstream to help the body excrete it. All continue to be monitored for lead levels in their blood despite first coming into contact with the substance during renovations in 2016.
